In today’s economy we are all looking for ways to stretch our dollar. Especially if you are able to make your house look like a million bucks when you have only spent a little. At the beginning of the year, my wife and I decided to tackle one room at a time in our home with the idea of having a newly decorated home in a year. Just add new paint. While this could go without saying it is amazing how much a nene paint color can change the look and feel of a room. We bought a brand new home a few years ago and all we had was the typical egg shell color that came with the home. Just by adding a new light almond wash color and white border the room took on a real cozy feel. It was an amazing difference that only cost a little bit of money.

Add new borders to your walls. Another cheap decorating idea that doesn’t cost a whole lot money is to add borders on your wall. This decorating idea works best in the living room and dining room areas. You can either place a chair rail border or outline the wall in a box using a border. Boarder does not cost a whole lot of money and it isn’t difficult to install either.

Go on a treasure hunt. If you want to find really unique and creative decoration items then consider doing a yard sale run or visiting a thrift store. Yard sales are great ways to buy unique decorations for very cheap. Also, visit some thrift stores in your area. Thrift stores have home decor items that were donated. This items are listed at a good price.

Buy some indoor plants. There is just something about having live greenery in a room. It feels fresh in the room and always seems to lighten it up. You can buy indoor plants at most hardware stores for between $20-$50. By positioning them in corners of the room you can create an awesome atmosphere in your home.
